Wellness Solution Pioneer, Sensei, Standardizes on Red Hat and JBoss Solutions

Sensei Inc. migrated from Microsoft Windows to Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise
Middleware to heighten scalability, flexibility and performance while carving out costs

Red Hat Summit & JBoss World – Chicago, IL – August 31, 2009 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the
world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Sensei Inc. has standardized its
IT infrastructure on JBoss Enterprise Middleware and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Since migrating from
Microsoft Windows, the scalable joint Red Hat and JBoss solution has helped Sensei Inc. to
significantly carve out infrastructure and development costs, and gain more flexibility when deploying
applications. Red Hat solutions have allowed Sensei to provide better interactive dialog and wider
exposure, (currently supported on over 300 mobile phones) to its customers in its flagship product,
Sensei for Weight Loss, a virtual dietitian that creates a holistic tailored weight loss plan including
grocery lists, meals and exercise routines. Sensei CIO, Tim Dion will highlight details of his
organization’s Red Hat deployment in a customer panel keynote at JBoss World on Thursday, September
3, 2009.

“I am pleased to be a part of JBoss World 2009 and share our innovation story with my peers. Other
companies are likely experiencing the same issues with proprietary solutions. At Sensei trying to grow
and expand our product would have been challenging for our business both in terms of man hours and
with integrating additional software. With Red Hat and JBoss solutions, we have the combination of
cutting-edge, high-performance technology with the flexibility and cost savings we need to continue to
expand our business,” said Tim Dion, CIO at Sensei Inc.

Sensei Inc (http://www.sensei.com), a Humana company formed in 2005, is a pioneer in mobile and
Web-based solutions that engage and empower customers to live healthier, happier lives. In a business
that seeks to fit seamlessly into the lives of its customers, Sensei needed a solution that had a solid
foundation for current and future endeavors. With plans to rapidly expand its offerings to more closely
align with its consumers and to encompass more lifestyle and health issues, Sensei’s Windows-based
technology was not meeting its needs and Sensei wanted to find a new platform and infrastructure.

Sensei initially tested its wellness and healthy lifestyle applications on a variety of JBoss.org community
projects before transitioning to JBoss’ hardened and supported enterprise-class solutions, including
JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, Enterprise SOA Platform and Enterprise Portal Platform running
on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Sensei chose a combination of Red Hat’s platform and middleware
solutions as its primary technology infrastructure because the solutions offered a wide range of reliable,
high-performance open source technologies from a single provider and enabled Sensei to carve costs out
of its IT architecture. Sensei also felt that Red Hat’s ability to rapidly support new standards gave Sensei
a competitive edge.

“Red Hat moves very quickly when it comes to supporting new standards,” said Dion. “For our business,
HIPAA and other privacy standards are becoming more and more important in not only winning new
customers, but keeping those we already have. Red Hat’s agility around standards adoption helps us keep
our competitive edge, and it’s one of the main reasons we put our trust in JBoss Enterprise Middleware.”

The combined Red Hat solution is allowing Sensei to better serve its customers toward their long-term
lifestyle goals. In addition to successfully deploying the combined Red Hat and JBoss solutions, Sensei
is also planning to contribute some of the integration code it has written in-house back into the open
source community.
